An Attitude of Gratitude

Posted by Ed Rodriguez Jr. in , , , ,

Years ago, while I was in college, I worked with a young man who always seems to have a chip on his shoulder. As we approached Thanksgiving Day, I asked if he had any plans. He then turned to me and made a statement that I will never forget, "Why? I have nothing to be thankful for." Sadly, ungrateful people like this young man seem to think that life owes them something.

My wife and kids were already at her parents for the holiday weekend so I drove up by myself. As I was behind the wheel, I began to think and reflect on all the blessings that God has given to me. I have much to thank God for!

I challenge you today to spend some time jotting down the different things you are thankful for. Encourage your loved ones to do the same and be prepared to share them tomorrow as you gather together. I pray that each of you will have a safe journey as you travel this holiday weekend. Blessings to you and your loved ones and Happy Thanksgiving!

The Man in the Mirror

I have taken the last couple of weeks off from blogging to re prioritize key areas in my life both on a personal and professional level. God uses His Word to speak to us but He also uses people.

I recently had someone point out an area in my life that I had been blinded to for the last 36 years. It is possible to live your whole life believing something is quite normal when in reality it isn't. God has used this time to peel and reveal the many layers of hidden pain from my past. It has been very refreshing.

As I have "looked in the mirror" through the pages of Scripture, I see more and more that I do not like about myself. As God has revealed these areas, I make the necessary adjustments through repentance and asking forgiveness from others. I am not trying to be humble or impress those of you who read my blog. I am just being honest. All of us are imperfect and have our own issues.

There are several areas that God has spoken to me about that have been so awesome.

1. God can salvage anyone.
2. God can do the impossible
3. God can and will use our experiences for His Glory.
4. God loves us unconditionally
5. God provides the right people in our life.
6. God has a unique plan for each of us.
7. God desires our love and devotion to Him.
8. God knows what we need and provides it.

I realize that some of you might be saying, "This is pretty obvious Ed." Well, God has used these simple obvious truths to speak to my heart in a fresh new way and they excite me. I have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving because Christ has given me a new perspective on things.

God bless and Happy Thanksgiving!
